3) With the introduction of all the three simple tenses in Gujarati and letters you should be able to read a given Gujarati text. As far as tenses are concerned we have looked at verbs (transitive and intransitive) and their tense forms. When a sentence indicates some state we require verb forms of ‘to be’. The present, past, and future forms of verb ‘હો’ are given under:

1st Person	છું	છીએ	હોઈશ	હોઈશું
2nd Person	છે	છો	હશે	હશો
3rd Person	છે	છે	હશે	હશે

Past
Masculine	હતો	હતા
Feminine	હતી	હતી/હતાં
Neuter	હતું	હતાં

3.1) સાંભળો અને બોલોઃ

હું ગુજરાતી છું.	(I am Gujarati)
અમે ગુજરાતી છીએ.	(We are Gujarati)
તું ક્યાં છે?	(Where are you?)
તમે ક્યાં છો?	(Where are you?)
આ મારી દીકરી છે.	(This is my daughter)
કૂવો ખૂબ ઊંડો છે.	(The well is very deep)
જાન્યુઆરીમાં અમે વડોદરા હતા.	(We were in Vadodara in January)
મે મહિનામાં અમે સૂરત હોઈશું.	(We will be in Surat in May)
અહીં એક મોટું તળાવ હતું.	(There was a big lake)
